Hombolo Hospital
-
Historical Background
-
DCT has operated a hospital at Hombolo (50 km in the bush) since 1960. Ministering to the most impoverished people, it formerly provided a specialized service for leprosy patients. Hombolo became a general care facility when the government changed its locations for treatment centres.
-
-
However, many former patients with disabilities & other related treatment needs continue to live in the area with their families. Limited assistance is received from outside leprosy care agencies. Residences, built with funds from partnership exchanges, support groups, & micro-finance initiatives, have enhanced the lives of these people.
